TTIP – Letter to Politicians – Please Send!

Dear All,

I have written to all the TD’s and MEP’s in relation to the above. These transatlantic trade agreements threaten to substantially undermine our democracy as we know it today.

I would be grateful if you could inform yourselves about what is being discussed in Europe at the moment in relation to this. If you feel moved, please also  write to your representatives. I have included the letter I have written. I am very happy for you to use the same or a similar letter outlining your concerns.

With love,

Marlene

Dear …,

I am writing to you in order to express my grave concern and opposition to the TTIP negotiations.

I am very worried about the possible sell out of our democracy in the interest of private enterprise. Specifically I am extremely apprehensive as to the consequences of the inclusion of the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism in the TTIP agreements. My understanding is that this mechanism allows corporations to sue governments for loss of revenue when government regulations are seen to affect expected profits or other trading issues. I understand that through ISDS private entities and companies can circumvent our national courts and democratic safeguards and actually sue the citizens, through their governments, for loss of profit before a dispute resolution mechanism that cannot be appealed to a higher independent court.

The simple fact of the matter is that the our Government, or any government, will no longer be in a position to offer any guarantees to their citizens as long as ISDS is part of this agreement. You were not elected to sell us out. No promised percentage of economic growth is worth the loss of our self- determination. Please continue to protect the common good over the interests of private enterprise.

Your Sincerely,

Signed: ______________
