Letter To Politicians Regarding Irish Water – 2014

This is a sample text of a letter that can be sent to your local representative.

Please DO send it, or your own letter to express your concern!

Dear      ,

I am writing to you to plea for a revision of your party political line on the water charges.

I believe your party have completely misunderstood the implication of a water charge and the reasons why we are protesting.

In a country where the rain water is flowing down the streets unmanaged creating floods, making the roads impassable, it seems a bit far fetched to start charging people for the mismanagement of a common resource. To charge people for water means that by implication they can be deprived of water by not paying for it. This is inconceivable in a country like Ireland where water is so abundant.

The creation of the water company has also laid the foundation for the privatisation of this vital resource. I would like to ask you not to support the party line and to urge the government to organise an amendment to the constitution to guarantee that the water of this country remains in the care of the people.

To proceed in any other way cannot but be considered as a crime against the Irish people.

Yours sincerely,
